ABOUT

Hello Ni Hao!

I'm a bilingual audio journalist and producer from Nanjing, China, currently fermenting in a small room in New York.

Right now, I am investigating how Christian faith communities in Flushing, Queens, help Chinese undocumented immigrants navigate pathways to legal status in the United States. — a project supported by the Fund for Investigative Journalism (FIJ).

I also produce news podcasts for Initium Media, covering the Pandemic trauma, refugee experiences, and immigration stories in NYC.

In between stories, I freelance as a bilingual translator and fact-checker for U.S. media, most recently working with The New York Times on coverage of Chinese cult organizations.

I'm also the program director of Voice Exchange, a cross-cultural initiative connecting emerging audio creators from China and the U.S. through workshops and public events.

From 2019 to 2023, I was a senior producer at StoryFM, one of China’s leading narrative podcasts. Our stories — about contemporary struggles and stubborn acts of resistance — have been featured on The New York Times, Rough Translation, and NHK. Over four years, I produced over 100 episodes about the wild, fragile, and creative ways of how ordinary Chinese people survive.

I hold an M.A. in Podcasting and Audio Reportage from NYU. Reach me at yebujinj93 (at) gmail (dot) com if you ever need a cultural or linguistic consultant — or simply a high-five. And I look back a lot.🥕
